The DNTS‑8 time server is a high‑tech, intelligent, stand‑alone clock synchronization server that operates on the NTP/SNTP protocols and delivers high‑precision time. It obtains standard clock signals from GPS or BeiDou satellites and disseminates these signals across the network, enabling devices requiring time synchronization—such as computers and controllers—to align with the reference clock. When both GPS and BeiDou receivers are in use, a priority can be configured; by default, BeiDou takes precedence, with GPS serving as a backup. If neither receiver receives a signal, the DNTS‑8 relies on its built‑in temperature‑compensated crystal oscillator for holdover, achieving a holdover accuracy of up to 1 × 10⁻⁹. The DNTS‑8 transmits standard time information over TCP/IP networks and supports multiple popular time‑distribution protocols, including NTP and time/UDP, as well as custom‑defined time‑broadcast packets via configurable UDP ports. The port numbers for NTP and time/UDP are fixed at 123 and 37, respectively, as specified in RFC‑123 and RFC‑37. Additionally, the DNTS‑8 supports the broadcast mode of the SNTP protocol.
