The DNTS-1E network time server is a compact, standalone time server based on the SNTP protocol. It obtains standard clock‑time information from GPS devices (Global Positioning System) and broadcasts this information across the network. Devices that require precise time—such as computers and controllers—can then synchronize with the standard clock signal, enabling network‑based time distribution. Standard time data is transmitted over TCP/IP networks, and the DNTS-1E supports multiple popular time‑distribution protocols, including NTP and time/UDP. It also accommodates custom‑defined time‑broadcast packets with configurable UDP ports. The port numbers for NTP and time/UDP are fixed at 123 and 37, respectively, as specified in RFC‑123 and RFC‑37.
The DNTS‑1E is extremely easy to use: simply connect the serial output of a time‑keeping device, such as a GPS receiver, to the DNTS‑1E’s serial port, and link the DNTS‑1E’s network port to a hub; the entire network will then be synchronized. The DNTS‑1E is designed specifically for OEM partners; its RS‑232 interface operates at TTL levels, requires a 5 V power supply, and features a dual‑row pin header.
